Epsilon Xi Chapter Southern Illinois University, Edwardsville

What is the difference between philanthropy and service?
Philanthropy and service are at the heart of our sisterhood in Alpha Phi. Philanthropy can be described as simply raising money to donate to a worthy cause. Our chapter hosts several events throughout the year to raise money for our philanthropy, the Alpha Phi Foundation.
We also love to participate in other organizations' philanthropic efforts! Service involves performing tasks to help make the world a better place, and is one of our six values in Alpha Phi. Our sisters consistently find different organizations to volunteer with and ways to give back to the community.

What is the Alpha Phi Foundation?
In 1956, Alpha Phi established its very own philanthropic organization, the Alpha Phi Foundation, dedicated to cardiac aid. Heart disease is currently the #1 killer of women in North America, and the Foundation aims to change that! This foundation focuses on several aspects, including women's heart health, research, leadership, scholarship and education. It is committed to funding annual grants to further support cardiac research, as well as grants and scholarships to support and empower both collegiate and alumnae members. Learn more about our foundation!

Our chapter always strives to make a difference on our campus and within our world. Since service is one of Alpha Phi's values, our chapter encourages our women to utilize their skills and knowledge for the betterment of the community.
Our members love to participate in a variety of service activities, including:
- volunteering at animal shelters
- volunteering at our local women's shelter
- dedicating time at local businesses
- helping out during on-campus events
and even traveling to lend a helping hand through study-abroad and alternative spring break trips!

Red Dress Gala

What is Red Dress Gala?
Each fall semester, our chapter hosts this event to raise money for the Alpha Phi Foundation. This is our largest philanthropy event, and we are so proud to say that our lifetime giving total to the Alpha Phi Foundation is $210,200! The gala is an evening full of fun and self-less giving, including a sit-down dinner, silent auction, interactive games and touching stories. Our chapter, the community, our friends and family all come together to make this a successful and unforgettable night for a wonderful cause!

Additional Philanthropic Events

While Red Dress Gala is our largest philanthropic event, we do so much more to support the Alpha Phi Foundation! In the past, we have held additional philanthropy events including Alpha Phifa (a soccer tournament to get the heart pumpin') and Mac 'n Phis (a day of serving mac 'n cheese to the campus!)

Alpha Phi also hosts Heart Health Week on campus to bring awareness to cardiac issues, promote heart health, and get the campus involved with our philanthropy.

How do we get involved with other organizations' causes?
Our sisters understand the importance of our philanthropic efforts, but also jump at the chance to show our passion for another organizations' efforts as well. We participate in a variety of events in our community and on campus, including Relay for Life and Dance Marathon, where we have won the Miracle Cup for being the most involved team. Additionally, we also love to participate in other fraternity and sorority philanthropic events!
